Liquid Marijuana Cocktail

Liquid Marijuana Cocktail

A bright green, tropical-meets-Long-Island-Iced-Tea cocktail built right in the glass. Sweet, fruity, and easy enough for beginners, this drink gets its name (and electric color) from a mix of coconut rum, melon liqueur, and blue curaçao — no marijuana involved.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 oz 22.5 ml Malibu coconut rum
  • 3/4 oz 22.5 ml spiced rum
  • 3/4 oz 22.5 ml Midori (melon liqueur)
  • 1 oz 30 ml sweet and sour mix (homemade: lemon juice, lime juice, sugar)
  • 1 1/2 oz 45 ml pineapple juice, fresh if possible
  • 3/4 oz 22.5 ml blue curaçao

Equipment

  • Highball or tall glass
  • Jigger
  • Bar spoon

Method

  1. Fill your glass with ice all the way to the top — the drink is built directly in the glass, and you'll get some dilution as you pour, so starting fully packed with ice keeps it from getting watery.
  2. Pour in the Malibu coconut rum (3/4 oz).
  3. Add the spiced rum (3/4 oz). Any spiced rum works — no need for a specific brand.
  4. Add the Midori (3/4 oz). This is what gives the drink its signature electric green tint.
  5. Pour in the sweet and sour mix (1 oz).
  6. Add the pineapple juice (1 1/2 oz).
  7. Top with the blue curaçao (3/4 oz) — this adds hints of orange flavor and turns the mix a funky blue-green.
  8. Stir gently just to combine into a uniform color. Top off with a little extra ice if needed.

Notes

  • This is a sweeter cocktail — the coconut liqueur, blue curaçao, and Midori all carry a lot of sugar, plus there's sugar in the sweet and sour mix. Adjust ratios to taste if you prefer it less sweet.
  • Store-bought pineapple juice tends to be sweeter than fresh due to added sugar; use fresh if you want a less sugary result.
  • Despite the name, this drink contains no marijuana or THC — the name comes purely from its bright green color.
