Ingredients

2 ounces sloe gin
½ ounce semi-rich simple syrup
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
About 3 ounces sparkling water or club soda
Ice, for shaking and serving
1 lemon wheel, for garnish
1 cocktail cherry, for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Collins glass
  • Strainer
  • Bar spoon

Method

Add the ingredients to the shaker. Pour 2 ounces of sloe gin, ½ ounce of semi-rich simple syrup, and 1 ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice into a cocktail shaker.
Add ice and shake. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 10–15 seconds.
Prepare the glass. Fill a chilled Collins glass with fresh ice.
Strain the cocktail. Strain the shaken mixture into the Collins glass over the ice.
Add the bubbles. Top the drink with about 3 ounces of sparkling water or club soda. Add a little more if needed to fill the glass.
Garnish. Add a lemon wheel and cocktail cherry to the drink.
Serve. Add a straw and serve immediately while the cocktail is cold and fizzy.

                Notes

                • Use fresh lemon juice: Freshly squeezed lemon gives the cocktail the bright acidity needed to balance the sweetness of the sloe gin.
                • Choose your sparkling water: Club soda or sparkling mineral water both work well.
                • Semi-rich simple syrup: The video uses a semi-rich syrup made with 1½ parts sugar to 1 part water.
                • Adjust the bubbles: The recipe calls for about 3 ounces of sparkling water, but you can add a little more to suit your glass and taste.
                • Serve over ice: Although traditional Fizzes were not always served on the rocks, this version is served like a Collins in a tall glass with ice.
                • Optional variations: Sloe Gin Fizz recipes can also be made with egg white, sparkling wine, or additional spirits, but those are variations rather than part of this classic version.
